Insulin Reserves Bankruptcy

For patients who become non-insulin dependant diabetics, they are given programs that encourage increased carbohydrates. Non-insulin dependent diabetes describes the process in reverse. The words 'non-insulin dependent' gives us the impression we do not need external sources of insulin, that the process is yet manageable. Insulin's importance is critical in the role of nutrition. Were it described as "Impending Pancreatic Exhaustion of Insulin Reserves", the sense of urgency would be present. The Pancreas is in an over production mode. As it valiantly tries to respond to the high glucose blood content, it is met with increased cellular resistance to insulin.

The resultant cellular stress creates all of the manifestations we see in the obese individual. These manifestations are coronary artery disease, dislipidemia, gastro esophageal reflux disease, high blood pressure, fluid retention, and susceptibility to many other psychosocial consequences. The wise words "if you don't have your health, you don't have anything," speak to the impending loss of spiritual, economic, and health that affects entire families who try to cope with obesity and malnutrition. Truly, our wealth is our health.
